INTERNATIONAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION PIERO FARULLI for string quartets, addressed to young musicians.
THE WINNER IS CHIA-YING LIN!

Chia-Ying Lin, (b. Taipei, Taiwan, 1990) studied at the Taipei National University of the Arts with Professor Tsung-Hsien Yang and is currently studying for a PhD with Professor Philip Grange at the University of Manchester, having graduated with a MusM (Distinction) from Manchester in 2012. Chia-Ying’s PhD study is supported by a Harry Clough Award and the Emmy Watts Memorial Fund as well as a scholarship from the Taiwanese government. Her works have been performed by the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra as well as various chamber ensembles including Vaganza and Psappha. She has currently been awarded third prize at the First International Jean Sibelius Composition Competition for her piano work The Gaze.

il  25 settembre 2015 alle ore 21.00 al Verdi di Firenze per la IV edizione di Play It!  Il Quartetto Maurice eseguirà la prima assoluta del pezzo vincente.

Il Primo Giugno si è conclusa la prima fase del Concorso Internazionale di Composizione Piero Farulli, con la consulenza di Giancarlo di Vacri e il Quartetto di Venezia sono state accettate 52 partiture provenienti da 10 paesi.

Al fine di creare un nuovo repertorio per i giovanissimi complessi la Associazione Piero Farulli bandisce un Concorso (PDF Bando) aperto a tutti i compositori dell’Unione Europea per la creazione di opere per quartetto d’archi della durata non superiore ai 12 minuti e che preveda espressamente due violini , viola e violoncello. La giuria sarà composta da tre eminenti musicisti (un compositore e due strumentisti ad arco), indicati dalla commissione artistica della Associazione. Il lavoro vincitore costituirà il pezzo d’obbligo del Concorso per quartetti Junior dell’anno successivo e il compositore riceverà in premio la pubblicazione dello spartito offerta da un’importante casa musicale.

In order to create a new repertoire for young string quartets, the Association Piero Farulli announces a competition (PDF Call for Entries) open to all composers of the European Union for creating works of max 15 minutes duration, for string quartet (two violins, viola and cello). The jury will be composed by three distiguished musicians (one composer and two string instrument players), appointed by the artistic committee of the Association. The winning work will be the requested piece to be performed in the following year’s Competition for the following year and the composer will be awarded with the publication of the score provided by a major music publishing house.
